Usability vs Technology

Placed in Website Design | November 16th, 2008

When JV Media Design was, the year was 1995 and the Internet was a very different place than it is today.

The first created websites we used simple layouts, a modest amount of graphics, standard “web safe colors, and no javascript. This was all done in an attempt to create websites that worked well with the browsers of the time (ie, Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator).

As the years went by, technology rapidly changed, and so did the web. Soon enough, javascript what the standard procedure for creating “roll over” effects on the buttons for scrolling text, and lots more. Web pages got more graphically intense, and using Flash audio and what a brand new frontier.

Ten years have now passed and keeping up with the trends and technology is still a major priority for us. When it was unheard of once to include web pages in Flash, it is now become standard practice. But there is such a thing as “too much of a good thing.”

We strive to create web pages technologies that blend together to create the best user experience. When it was once agreed to incorporate Flash “splash” on the Web page, it is now looked upon as extraneous that most visitors want to click through. Attention spans have shortened to a mere matter of seconds on the web, and uses Flashy put through a presentation to just have a “wow” factor can be more beneficial than harmful.

Thus, the main factor in consideration of Flash technology to your website is: “Will it improve my website?” In order to answer this question you must consider your target market. For instance, you are a rock band. You need to convey a certain image and your design can be more creative and exciting than if you are a Real Estate Agent. Try surfing the web and see what others have done with their sites. Ie, your designer should be able to guide you in what will work and what will not.

Keep in mind that there is still a fairly large percentage of Internet users accessing the web at dial-up speeds. If you do choose to use Flash, make sure you do not lose potential visitors by making them wait through a long, boring loading screen. Most people surf the web to access information. Just because you can design a very complicated Flash presentation, does not mean you should.

Long Copy Sales Letters Hype or Not?

Placed in Website Design | October 24th, 2008

I long ago copy sales on the Internet. But I have to say about that.

First, let me be clear on what I have to say here. I am not talking about long pages of content in dozens of other pages on a website. I speak of stand-alone-pages … a long letter of reply directly online, often with a domain name.

In addition, I would like to say how long copy works online and offline.

If someone can draw the attention of your letter, a long page gives you more space for all the benefits, based on all the features and a wide range of issues and concerns of readers. As long as the writing is dynamic and keeps the reader, people continue to increase.

And you’ll have a better conversion rate as if you have a page shorter. This applies both offline and on the Internet.

However, what I found was two different approaches for the long term, online distribution of writing. Both work, but also in several ways.

Long copy style # 1: Sale of Hype

You probably know the type of my page. Here is an example of the nature of copying, you can expect:

“Now back to life? Do the same routine is praised by experts as a true” … a new, breakthrough is likely to cause the man has more millionaires status of “Think & Grow Rich”, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” and “The Science of Getting Rich” combined “”

The copy style is fast, with one set of superlatives, with thick bounced and promises not with descriptions of people who appear at their wheats amphetamines.

The presentation of these sales pages is quite consistent. Many subtitles and stress dash. A panting speed … and the promise of a better life. Success. Wealth. Happiness.

Well, we all want to be happy and most of us can do with some other well-being.

But how is it that this concept works so well? Many of us in these letters and believe not. And many of us say that, ever convince such an approach. But hundreds of thousands of people.

How is it that? This approach has a copy quality is hypnotic. He made promises with such strength and enthusiasm. And anyway, it draws us in a state of the presentation. We refer Wave endless promises and testimonials. We succumb to the idea that maybe, just maybe … This could be the work … and we can see that happiness or additional wealth.

And yes, you also turn the critical faculties, from time to time. If you’ve already bought a lottery ticket you in this “show” … If your desire for a better future, to overcome your thought process more efficient. Hey, somebody has to win. Right?

The same is true if you had the feeling that your brain go soft in the face of a passionate car or electronics seller. Half of your brain knows you will be convinced to buy additional features that you do not need and probably can not afford. The other part of your brain whispers in your ear, “Hey Mann, chill. It feels good. Go with the flow, you hear the man.”

This is done with us, if we want to hear what we hear. If we want that to be true. If we can make us dream.

This is how Hype works. It deepens our state of the presentation and creates a dream state near the optimism.

And it works.

The meaning of this approach is that most of us dream to wake up and see that the promises were empty. Or to express it otherwise, we have the ticket, but not to win the lottery.

So if your goal is long-term relationships with your readers, customers and prospects, with Hype is not the way to go.

Long copy style # 2: Sale of a human link

The second type of copy-time approach is very different. In addition, it is often the stand-alone pages, many screens. Again, positions, subtitles, references and dashes.

But you will find a very different style of writing.

If you’ve never read a letter from Bill Bonner, Ken Evoy or Allan Gardyne … This is the kind of writing I am talking about.

It is still passionate letters … the pace and you always draws down, line by line.

But some differences are here, and they are of great importance.

- In the text you hear is the real voice of the writer. You are not sold with a copy of “Dream-O-Matic 2000? They are recognizable by a human voice, the voice of Bill, or Ken Allan.

- They are not succumb to the State that the model of dream and suspension of your critical capacity. They remain very rational and very clear in your thinking.

- You hear a voice that sounds and feels much more trustworthy.

- You do not have to suspend your disbelief. Instead, you have well-being and believe what you read.

At the end of a letter like this, make a choice … buy or not buy. And it is a choice, you are much less regrettable.

Online sales of letters that the children of traditional direct response in writing. Direct-mail is good writing in this second way? a genuine connection with the player and earn money or trust.

It is a great upside to this approach. It develops trust and loyalty. If your strategy is the list of happy customers and prospects who come again and again is the style you want to adopt.

Conclusions

Long copy works, and works in more than one way.

If you reach an audience large enough (no small power) and want any money, right now, Hype could work for you.

But if you want to build a long-term regular customers … and you give your target group with an enthusiasm that is built on a foundation of honesty and respect for your readers.

Yes, it only takes ten seconds for viewers to get interested and stay a little longer to know more about your site and get the information they’re looking for.

This is the main reason why the first page is the most important in any web site. Rule of thumb is to have a page that is direct to the point, doesn’t waste time, and doesn’t waste bandwidth. It’s necessary that you get to the crux of your message and do it quick. Or else your audiences are outta here.

Studies prove that human nature cause to lose focus on whatever it is that we are paying attention to after the initial ten seconds. The mind seem to think that after ten seconds, either the object of attention gets better and interesting, or the attraction just fades because of too many things.

Eight Stumbling Blocks Site, and Their Prevention

Placed in Website Tricks | October 13th, 2008

Clutter: Too much noise, too much text, and few “white” character means that customers ignore the content. Often customers rapid scanning, reading titles or prompts until they reach the content they want. Be specific, with titles to break the text, not too many fonts and reading at your audience.

Confusion navigation: buttons and menu should be clear links should be as follows: Links. Text should not look like buttons or links. Customers are usually not read and digest the information in linear order and should be able to perhaps between sections.

Company-centricism: Customers are task-oriented. You do not know (or support) on the structure of departments, enterprises or jargon. See your site as foreigners would, by function or mission. Use clear, generic identification and try to minimize the use of company or industry jargon, acronyms and abbreviations, unless the context is.

Design by committee: While teamwork is essential to the success of a website, the group consensus for decisions to adopt a draft of its runway.

Bells and whistles: How does a Web site is not as important as the content and design of their content. Creating the layout of the site before attempting to finalize the design.

High maintenance of static pages dynamic pages on the basis of information are quickly outdated. Add dynamic data if necessary, and to ensure a path to it.

Back patting: non-customers to say how large are your products, they show. Do you think an introduction to a minimum of equipment and focus on your applications or services.

Overcomplicating: design trend, a Web site, as if it should be all spring from the head, before it is published. Remember that for a website is always a work in progress and should be here as such. To publish the information at hand, and the page can develop and, if necessary, revised after feedback from users.

Text of Your Site

Placed in Website Design | October 8th, 2008

Back to basics. Remember great design, good texts is the key to a clear and intuitive.

Are you losing business because your website? More and more customers are in demand on the Web to decide where they spend their money because it is fast and comfortable, and they can jump from site to site, instead of walking from the registration record.

Experienced Web clients is not necessary, patients, studies have shown that you need for a potential customer very quickly, their simple, fast access to information they need. Otherwise, they are just the place.

Quick and elegant design features are important, but it is not, make sure your site is well structured (intuitive) or German (Clear).

First Reading

The real message on most sites, creation, and so it is advisable that the letter should determine the structure. Unfortunately, this is not the usual case. Most businesses choose the structure and design of their first website and try to adapt and circumvent the letter, of the structure. The flight in the face of the general. If you talk to someone, structure your speech around your staff, not to decide on a structure and then edit the message. That is to say exactly you need to think about what you mean, before the Web site. Maybe even write it first, then use the message to determine the structure.

In the decision, what to write, think about what your client wants to know, but what you mean. It is a subtle difference but it is the key to a potential customer.

Most customers want to know the basics:

What do you do?

What benefits can you?

Why should they choose your product or service?

What does it cost?

How can they contact you?

Where are you?

Brevity and clarity

Your site is responsible for communicating a lot of information can be obtained and, worse still, you have limited space. In the ideal case, your client is not for the page (keep all your data in one window) and the unique vision of data must be at the opening of more than words. The design and navigation elements to about a third of the window, and you would have a little room for a space (you do not want to overwhelm the customer). Typically, you must wait for nearly half the text window.

How will you adjust all your information in such a space? This is in the letter of capacity – Choose your words carefully examined.

Web pages can be a very strong piece of sales collateral. They reach millions of potential customers for as little as a few hundred dollars. Unfortunately, your competitors are doing the same – a “level playing field, but there are many players.

It is important that your message is structured and well-built, otherwise your site is chaos and no one bothered to read your business. If your message is clear, your site is simple and easy to use. It is in words.

Do You Have Your Site Yourself

Placed in Website Guide | September 27th, 2008

Many people hire professional Web Designer for miles as much as U.S. $ and! You can, and very easily, a Web site for nearly a hundredth of that price, and probably half the time. Here are 4 simple steps to start without it.

1. Looking for a quality web host

It will probably take longer than you might imagine, so I always here. Google Web Host “is more than 70 million results and containing many, many ads. Around questions, find forums, and trust your feelings to find a host, you feel that the best quality for prices (Bang for Your Buck). Approximately $ 10 to $ 15 per month is a reasonable price (without the added benefits). In addition, you must ensure that your needs (you need a MySQL database, PHP , ASP, ColdFusion, etc), without adding additional costs for standard options.

If the host that you use is a host of quality, it should allow you to register a domain name on its website (or refer it to one of its partner sites). Which leads us to ..

2. Create a domain name

What is your site is about? Try a short list of specific keywords that relate to your website topic. Many websites, which offer fields to register a tool to find domain names available Web site based on your keyword list. Some characteristics of a good domain name are: short, remembers, easy to give, on the theme of your site, and preferablely. Com (most people think only of web sites. Com if you have one. NET at the end they could be on the wrong page). The conclusion of a good domain name can be difficult, so do not worry too much on the time in the quest for perfection in one.

3. Looking a

Instead of trying to code your own site, take a look around models that are relatively cheap. Many packages offer accommodation in their plans for the website design and plans. A good presentation could cost as far as $ 100, but remember, in itself Already nearly a thousand dollars in savings, do not feel that you can not work on a design that you please.

4. Put it online

This should be a piece of cake, if you bought a design of your host, but if you have found another to visit some applications. You need an FTP client (SmartFTP try, it’s free for personal use) to transfer your files to your server. Customer Support can help you if you can not found, but most Internet hosts give you all the information you need a step by step process that good.

Very lucky with the next phase of your website, promotion and marketing.
