Are Meta tags really dead?

On the right, in its Guidelines Yahoo States “Metadata (including title and description) that accurately describes the contents of a Web page.” With the metadata as they mean the text between the tags in your HTML page. Description Yahoo mean the actual meta tag name = “description”. Therefore, metadata is assigned at least as far as Yahoo is not dead.
