Choose a Product Content Management Web

Placed in Website Tricks | May 17th, 2010

So you want a look at a real Web content management (WCM) to make products. How are you when evaluating the various products and vendors? What you should find in a WCM package? Is it better to build your own, buy or use Open Source?

The best way to answer this question is to compare products on an apples to apples. You can do so objectively, through the construction of a product evaluation matrix based on your specific needs. The first column indicates the feature list of categories (eg security). The second column, the specific needs (eg integration with Active Directory for authorization and roles) under each category. The following columns are your products, one to evaluate each column for each desired product. For each product that you assign a rating (1-10 scale) on each specific need.

Then you can use a column for each specific weighting, or do so under the theme level. For example, flexible workflow much more important than your ability to adapt to you, the presentation. Then you can more columns to calculate the weight of the load to arrive at a realistic figure for a product at any specific needs of your organization. obtain the sum of all these up by a total score for product review.

Of course, you can not forget, customer references, or if it is an open source product, you’ll dig around to check out some sites that are already with the tool.
Here is a list of some issues and needs that may apply to you. At the very least, some thoughts on your role as a cause as much as you want in a WCM product and give you a good start in your product evaluation matrix.
